Kinesiology tapes may look similar at first glance, but the differences go beyond colour and design. The CureTape product range includes tapes with different materials, adhesive strength, surface structures and intended applications.
CureTape Classic is a versatile cotton tape for everyday use and rehabilitation, CureTape Sport is designed for situations where greater adhesion is required, while the perforated structure of CureTape Punch is better suited to lymphatic taping techniques. CureTape Art combines the properties of Classic with colourful designs, while CureTape Beauty has been developed for gentler applications on the face and neck.
In this article, we compare five CureTape tapes available from Fiziopreces.lv and explain which option to choose depending on the intended use. CureTape Classic, Sport, Punch, Art and Beauty are also available in the Fiziopreces.lv kinesiology tape category.
What is CureTape kinesiology tape?
CureTape is an elastic tape designed to be applied to the skin while allowing free body movement. Unlike rigid sports tape, kinesiology tape is generally not used to mechanically restrict a joint completely.
Depending on the specific model, the main characteristics of CureTape products include:
- elastic cotton or viscose material;
- latex-free acrylic adhesive;
- a breathable surface;
- water resistance;
- the ability to wear the tape for several days;
- different colours, designs and widths.
CureTape Classic is made from cotton, while the Sport version uses smoother, faster-drying viscose together with a stronger adhesive. According to the manufacturer, the products are manufactured in a certified factory in South Korea and comply with European medical device requirements.
What can you expect from kinesiology tape?
When applied correctly, kinesiology tape may improve the subjective feeling of support, make movement more comfortable or temporarily reduce discomfort for some people. Tape is also used in lymphatic taping techniques and as an additional tool during rehabilitation.
However, tape does not heal a muscle, tendon or ligament injury on its own. It does not replace appropriate exercise, load modification or, when necessary, assessment by a physiotherapist or doctor.
Research does not support the idea that kinesiology tape significantly increases strength, sprint speed, jump height or other athletic abilities in healthy athletes. Regarding oedema reduction, some situations may show a short-term benefit, but the quality of evidence is low and results vary depending on the body area and cause of swelling.

| CureTape Beauty | Gentler tape for facial and neck skin | Face, neck, décolletage and cosmetic taping |
CureTape Classic – the versatile choice
CureTape Classic is the brand’s most versatile and popular model. It is made from breathable cotton and coated with a latex-free acrylic adhesive.
The tape can be used for a variety of muscle and joint applications, including:
- the shoulder and shoulder-blade area;
- back muscles;
- the elbow and forearm;
- the knee area;
- the thigh and calf;
- the foot and ankle.
Classic is suitable for people using kinesiology tape for the first time and for those who do not require an especially strong adhesive. It provides a good balance between comfort, elasticity and adhesion. According to the manufacturer, when applied correctly the tape can generally remain on the skin for approximately four to seven days.
Fiziopreces.lv offers both the standard 5 cm × 5 m and the wider 7.5 cm × 5 m CureTape Classic versions. The wider tape can be practical for the back, thigh and other larger areas of the body.
CureTape Sport – for intensive activity and sweating
CureTape Sport is designed for situations in which standard tape may begin to peel away too quickly. It is made from viscose rather than cotton and has approximately 25% stronger adhesive than CureTape Classic.
The viscose material is smooth, elastic and relatively quick-drying. CureTape Sport may therefore be more suitable for:
- intensive training and competition;
- athletes who sweat heavily;
- swimming and water sports;
- the foot, wrist or ankle area;
- areas where the tape is exposed to friction from clothing or equipment;
- applications where one strip of tape is placed over another.
It is important to understand that CureTape Sport does not automatically provide greater joint stability simply because its adhesive is stronger. The main difference is better adhesion in demanding conditions, rather than a guaranteed improvement in athletic performance or injury prevention.
For people with very sensitive skin, the stronger adhesive may not be the best first choice. In this case, it is advisable to test a small piece of tape on the skin first.
CureTape Punch – perforated tape for lymphatic applications
CureTape Punch differs from conventional kinesiology tape because its surface contains numerous small, round perforations. This structure creates areas of varying tension and pressure on the skin.
The manufacturer specifically positions CureTape Punch for lymphatic taping techniques, including applications for:
- localised oedema;
- post-operative swelling;
- areas affected by bruising or haematoma;
- scar tissue and fibrosis management;
- situations in which greater skin stimulation is desired.
CureTape Punch is not an acupuncture tape and does not contain medicinal substances. Its main distinguishing feature is its mechanically perforated structure. According to the manufacturer’s instructions, Punch is generally applied without stretching the tape itself, while the relevant body part is first positioned appropriately.
Swelling can have many different causes, so unexplained or sudden swelling should not immediately be treated with self-applied tape. It is advisable to establish the cause first and consult a doctor or physiotherapist when appropriate.
CureTape Art – Classic properties with colourful designs
Functionally, CureTape Art is very similar to CureTape Classic. It is made from breathable cotton and uses the same type of elastic, latex-free adhesive layer.
The main difference is visual. CureTape Art is available in various printed designs, allowing the tape to be matched to sports clothing, team colours or personal style.
The print is incorporated into the fibres of the material so that the tape retains its elasticity and smooth surface. CureTape Art provides similar elasticity and adhesive strength to Classic, meaning that the choice between the two products is primarily aesthetic.
Does the colour of kinesiology tape have a therapeutic effect?
No. Blue, black, pink or beige tape does not produce a different therapeutic effect simply because of its colour.
Colours and patterns can be selected according to personal preference. CureTape’s official taping instructions also state that the colours used in demonstrations are selected for illustrative purposes rather than because they provide a specific therapeutic effect.
CureTape Beauty – taping for the face and neck
CureTape Beauty is designed for gentler applications on the face, neck and décolletage. It is made from breathable cotton and uses a skin-friendly, latex-free acrylic adhesive.
The product is used for:
- facial taping;
- lymphatic applications on the face;
- techniques aimed at reducing the sensation of swelling;
- applications following certain cosmetic procedures;
- so-called beauty taping or aesthetic taping.
CureTape Beauty is not intended to replace CureTape Sport during intensive training or to act as a strong joint-stabilising tape. Its priority is comfort when applied to the thinner and more sensitive skin of the face. The manufacturer recommends applying Beauty tape without stretch and removing it slowly, using oil to soften the adhesive if necessary.
The manufacturer markets Beauty tape as a cosmetic skin-care product; however, claims regarding long-term wrinkle reduction or skin rejuvenation should not be interpreted as guaranteed medical outcomes. CureTape also states in its instructions that some facial taping techniques are based on professional experience and have not yet been fully supported by scientific evidence.
Which CureTape tape should you choose?
Choose CureTape Classic if you need a versatile tape for everyday use, rehabilitation or your first experience with kinesiology taping.
Choose CureTape Sport if the tape will be used during intensive training, heavy sweating, exposure to moisture or conditions involving increased friction.
Choose CureTape Punch if you need a perforated tape for lymphatic, oedema or scar-tissue taping techniques. It is advisable to first learn these applications from a physiotherapist.
Choose CureTape Art if you want properties similar to CureTape Classic but prefer a colourful design.
Choose CureTape Beauty if you need tape for the face, neck, décolletage or gentler cosmetic and lymphatic applications.
How should you prepare the skin and apply kinesiology tape?
To help the tape adhere properly while reducing unnecessary skin irritation:
- The skin should be clean, dry and free from creams, oils and sweat.
- If necessary, body hair can be shortened, but avoid irritating or damaging the skin immediately before taping.
- Round the corners of the cut tape so they are less likely to catch on clothing.
- Always apply the beginning and end of the tape without stretch.
- Most muscle applications require only a small amount of stretch.
- For oedema and facial applications, the tape is generally applied without stretch.
- After application, gently rub the tape to activate the adhesive layer.
- Before sport, it is preferable to apply the tape at least approximately 30 minutes beforehand.
Excessive tape tension can cause skin wrinkling, pressure points, itching or blistering.
When should kinesiology tape not be used?
Tape should not be applied over:
- an open or fresh wound;
- damaged or infected skin;
- areas affected by severe dermatitis or eczema;
- areas with unexplained severe pain;
- an area where a fracture is suspected;
- areas where thrombosis is suspected.
Additional caution is also required in people with very thin skin, significant venous problems or those taking blood-thinning medication.
If persistent itching, burning, blistering or increased pain develops beneath the tape, it should be removed. People with sensitive skin should consider testing a small piece of tape before applying a full application.
How should kinesiology tape be removed?
The tape should not be pulled rapidly away from the skin. It is better to remove it slowly while supporting the skin and moving in the direction of hair growth.
If the adhesive remains very strong, the tape can be moistened with baby oil or another oil-based product. After several days of use, the skin may benefit from a short break before another application is applied.
Summary
CureTape products are not all the same. Classic is a versatile cotton tape, Sport provides stronger adhesion during intensive physical activity, Punch is designed for more specific lymphatic applications, Art combines the characteristics of Classic with colourful designs, and Beauty has been developed for facial and neck taping.
The choice of tape should depend on the purpose of the application, skin sensitivity and the conditions in which the tape will be used. Kinesiology tape can be a useful additional tool, but it does not replace an accurate diagnosis, appropriate exercise or progressive rehabilitation.
